The Challenge:

DRS, a world leader in high performance, ultra rugged computer systems for the Military Segment wanted to provide evidence that their new mobile computing Industrial Tablet PC’s (the ARMOR X10) could withstand the same harsh & intense environment that occur on the battlefield. Most importantly, they wanted to prove that the digital data & content housed within their tablets (via SSD’s) would not compromised and was able to sustain an intense beating.

How did ELCOM Make A Difference:

ELCOM engaged Intel’s FPG Division, and worked w/ DRS on a co-marketing effort, where Intel secured one of DRS’s new ARMOR X10 Tablets, and equipped it w/ an Intel Ephraim SATA SSD, and raced it in the 2008 Baja Off Road Race to highlight and validate the reliability and ruggedness of both the DRS PC Tablet & the Intel SSD.

The Results:

ELCOM made it happen and 500 miles, 11hrs, 6 crashes, 97 mph top speed, 1000’s of rocks, ruts, whoops, & jumps later… both the DRS ARMOR X10 Tablet and the Intel SSD survived and maintained operation during the entire Event.

Rick Bortles, CEO

As president and CEO, Rick Bortles sets the vision, goals and strategic initiatives for ELCOM. Directly leading the sales efforts and field sales teams, Rick ensures that our customer commitments are met and expectations exceeded. Rick brings over 20 years of sales experience with in-depth knowledge of the semiconductor industry, including sales management positions with Spraque Semiconductor and Omron Electronics. A Yellow Jacket at heart, Rick has a BS degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and a graduate degree from FAU.

Kerry Erwin, Executive Vice President/COO

In his role as Executive Vice President/COO, Kerry Erwin is responsible for developing relationships and data conduits with ELCOMS′s business, financial, and legal partners. He also manages HR, IT and Operations. Kerry started with ELCOM in 1990. Prior to joining ELCOM, he held various sales positions with Philips Semiconductors and Intel Corporation. He began his career in sales in 1984 and holds a BS degree from the University of Alabama.

Jackie Lavoie, Service Center Manager Atlanta, Georgia

Jackie Lavoie joined ELCOM in 1997 as an Inside Sales Representative. Currently, as the ELCOM Service Center (ESC) Manager, she is responsible for managing and promoting all aspects of the tactical sales process. The CSRs in the ESC take care of the needs of both our direct and distribution customers and they all report to Jackie. She is also the data repository for all market info in the Southeast. Prior to joining ELCOM, Jackie was a Distribution Coordinator in the Atlanta market. She began her career in sales working for CR Machine in Massachusetts.

Dave Ciampa, Vice President/GSM Raleigh, North Carolina

As Vice President/GSM for the Raleigh region, Dave Ciampa is responsible for managing the sales office in Cary, NC and calling on key accounts there. He joined the company in March of 1994 to expand their presence in the Carolinas. He started his career in sales with 3M Company in 1983. He is a Tarheel with a BS degree from UNC.

Gabriel Fadel, Vice President/GSM Atlanta, Georgia

As the Vice President/GSM for the Atlanta region, Gabriel Fadel's responsibilities include managing the Atlanta sales office, calling on key accounts there and chairing the Technical Steering Committee for ELCOM. He joined ELCOM in 1992. Prior to working for ELCOM, Gabriel was a Design Engineer at Hayes Microcomputer Products and at Digital Communications Associates. Gabriel is a Yellow Jacket with a BSEE degree from Georgia Tech.

Tom Bucinski, Vice President/GSM Orlando, Florida

As Vice President/GSM for the Orlando region, Tom Bucinski is responsible for managing the ELCOM Field Sales Team in Florida and Puerto Rico. Tom also calls on key accounts in the territory. He joined ELCOM in 1998. Five years prior, he worked for Avnet in the Atlanta marketplace. Tom is a Golden Knight from Clarkson U in New York with a degree in Computer Engineering.
